Nana Speaks' Celebrates the Release of Her Morning Run

With time, dedication and determination, anything can be accomplished. Starting back in 2015, Nana Speaks (Tiana) began her journey to becoming an author in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Nana explained how writing her poetry book was “not an easy process.” Her words of advice are “don’t get discouraged, everyone isn’t gonna support you.” During these unprecedented times, many people find themselves becoming busier, which lead to stress and depression. A simple solution or temporary relief for this predicament is poetry. Poetry is a beautiful piece of literature that grants the reader an opportunity to become more aware of an experience or emotional response imaginatively through language.

Nana Speaks recently released her poetry book, Her Morning Run, in 2021. Going on a morning run feels like a “relief from everyday life,” this is the state of feeling readers should receive when they engage in reading the novel (hence the name). The purpose of Her Morning Run is to be relatable. Readers can connect to the novel based on the feelings and emotions obtained from the various poems. Nana does plan to write more poetry books in the future and is currently focusing on the release of her own workout collection designed for women. It is a known fact that black women, today, “face far more barriers to advancement”. Along with the racial and gender struggles that black women encounter, we must keep in mind that some have a full-time job of being a mother as well. The task of being a woman, especially a black woman in America, comes with various trials and tribulations. Her Morning Run is evidence that everything is possible with grit. We salute Nana Speaks for contributing her book of poetry to society and have excited anticipation for her women’s workout collection.
